Q, Please can you tell me the best hand held wand readers to use for EID?

There are a wealth of readers out there at the moment and all are trying to gain popularity.

We have personally built into our software the Shearwell stick reader, the Agrident and Ritchey’s Syscan.

So far the Syscan seems to be working fine and is a robust peace of kit.

The wand (stick) readers do much the same job as each other but vary in their appearance and basic functionality.They are all around the £600+vat mark. Let me know if you need any more information I am happy to help.

A, If I get a print out from the mart do I have to enter these again into my records for EID tagged sheep?

You don’t have to but you need to refer to the print out in detail and check that the print out is correct, at the end of the day it’s your responsibility to maintain accurate records. The principle is that “what is in the animal needs to be in your records” unless you are referring to an accurate print out.
